Good Mark's Study Guides App

The Good mark’s Study guides is a company which offers different study guides and concept cards. It also has mobile apps for both IPhone and Android users. You can download them in google play store for free. Different apps available are Good Marks’s study guide Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, GMAT Quantitative, 150 Key Business Questions. They have summaries of key theories, concepts and basic formulae.

When you open the app, there are options like View Cards where you can navigate through the cards one by one. The other option is Topic Index, where you can choose the specific topic and then go through the cards. There is also a ‘how to use’ button which is a self-help for using this app. The navigation is pretty comfortable and simple to use.

There are several concepts covered in these apps. For example, in Macroeconomics app, you can find the basics of Macroeconomics, Business cycles,  Current account balance, Deflation, Exchange rates, Fiscal policy, Inflation rates, GDP Accounting, International trade, Monetary policy, Productivity, PPP, Savings & Investment, Trade Balance, Unemployment and so on.  It gives an overall idea and knowledge of the subject.

Though this may not be very satisfiable for those who look for practical studies, this option is very useful for students and beginners to keep in touch with the basic concepts. It is like a pocket dictionary for reference.

IRCTC CONNECT ANDROID APP

IRCTC recently launched android mobile app called IRCTC CONNECT Version 1.1 powered by Broad Vision for the IRCTC users. It's a 12MB download and you can easily install this app from google play store for free.

The feel of the app is good. There is username and password to login. For new users, you can easily ‘Register’ your profile. Using this app, you can book tickets by checking the availability. The features are almost same as the IRCTC website. There are different options available like ‘New Booking’, ’My Bookings’ (where you can check your booked tickets), Cancel ticket. There is an option for Feedback also. Using this feature, you can write your feedback to care@irtctc.co.in. There is another option called Contact us, where you can find all types of contact details to IRCTC. You can also book tatkal tickets.

While booking a new ticket, there is an option called ‘Preferences’ where you can select your preference like ‘ Book a ticket only if lower birth is available’, ‘coach number’ , ‘Book the tickets only if all the tickets are available in the same coach’ etc., This is just a preference and not an assurance that you get the preferred seat always.

Although installing it is easy and helpful for booking of tickets from mobile, there are some drawbacks too. Sometimes the transactions are failed, amount is deducted but ticket is not booked. It would be more helpful if transaction related processes are revised for a better performance of the app. But considering the positives, it is useful for those who wants to enjoy easy mobile train ticket booking.

SWACHH BHARAT

SWACHH BHARAT

“CLEANLINESS IS NEXT TO GODLINESS”
                         - Mahatma Gandhi

In response to the call given by our Prime Minister Narendra Modi for ‘SWACHH BHARAT’, I feel   being a part of it wholeheartedly. It gives me an inspiration from within to contribute for a clean India and pass it on to others also in being a part of this movement.  Thanks to our leader Modi for taking up an initiative and motivating the people of the nation to come forward for a cleaner India.

‘It’s not for Modi , but for our country’, is the most sensible statement made by our PM.  Yes! It’s only an initiative started as a leader by our prime minister. But unless every citizen of the country feels it a responsibility to be a part of it, this movement cannot run successfully.  Let us not just leave it as one of the concepts introduced by the government. But rather be a part of it. It’s not for any government or leader but it’s for us, for the country, for the people and for a better nation.

SWACHH BHARAT includes not just cleaning of the roads or toilets or the Ganges, but it is also of cleaning the impurities present in our mindsets.  Let us clean our hearts and change our mindsets towards a better nation. Let us act responsible and feel that every contribution by a single person makes a difference.

We, the students of Great Lakes, Chennai have taken up cleaning drive in the villages by teaching them the importance of cleanliness in their school and by imparting them some values of good education and morals. I personally as a citizen of India have taken up a pledge not to put any waste on the road side and to use the dustbins everywhere.  I will not let others also to litter the environment.

It’s time for us to realize the importance of cleanliness and feel it a responsibility that it is ‘OUR NATION’ to work for. Let us show the world the greatness of our country. Let us be a part of that change.  Let’s lend an extended arm to the commitment given by our beloved leader in translating the dream of Gandhiji into reality!

“Asathoma Sadgamaya
 Tamasoma Jyothirgamaya
 Mruthyorma Amruthangamaya”

Let us take a resolve to make our contributions in this direction and to lift our nation from the abysmal depths of ignorance and poverty to the zenith of glory and wisdom.

Thoughts in the Rain

Thunders in the sky…everybody is running to shelters to protect themselves from the rain. I have also found one shed in front of a small tea shop. I have bought a cup of tea and while standing over there, thoughts started flowing in my mind. I see the rain drops waking up the flowers around. I see the plants smiling and enjoying the rain. Meanwhile when I turn around, I see a small girl playing with the rain drops falling at the corner of the shed. Her father tries to warn her not to play in the rain. But she keeps on playing and enjoys with her heart full of joy. While everyone is running to protect themselves from the rain, this girl enjoys it. What a different perception! I realize that we don’t see the happiness involved in the small things around us. We are all running for something that is materialistic. But we forget the present happiness in what we have. We forget that there is beautiful nature around us, people moving around us, to smile at our peers, to rejoice every second, to thank God every second for what he has given us. We live in our own world, our own mind, make things complex, relationships complex and lose all the joy in the present. Life is not just about achieving the goals in terms of material things but also living your life happily. Relive the joy…awaken the child inside you…feel the rain…feel the nature…smile at people…Have a good sleep…Have a healthy lifestyle…Live happily…Live the Life. :)

LIFE AT GREAT LAKES

"Oh my God!!!hurrayyyyyyyyyyyyyy....." this was my scream when I saw the mail "Great Lakes-Welcome aboard". It was 16th May,2014 . Celebrations all over India because NAMO got elected as the Prime minister of India. I was also enjoying the crackers sounds. Then I received the mail and I felt that it was not only the change for India, but also a big change in my life also.

Being from an Engineering background, I have joined the IT sector and worked for 14 months.Life used to be good. 5 digit salary pay every month, corporate culture, weekend freaks etc,. But deep inside the heart, there has always been a strong zeal to do something more;something which I really want to do.My passion for Management work has motivated me to give CAT and fortunately I got into Great Lakes.

I have experienced some of the "First days" of my life. The First day of my Engineering, first day of an interview, first day of first job.But the "First day at Great Lakes" has been something different.Of course, the same butterflies in my stomach but yet this first day has something special to experience with. I have experienced peace of mind when I entered the college. The awesome greenery of the campus gives a feel of being in the nature, which we miss in our routine city life. The "Tower of Reflection" inside the campus, the Buddha statue, Lord Ganesha temple and a wonderful green campus near the beach;all these things have given me an unknown feeling of excitement like someone inside me started saying "You are at the right place to secure your dream future and all your passions". That is the soul of Great Lakes campus. There is some divinity in the campus which gives you a feel of confidence on your future.

It has all started with a handshake friendship with the peers.People have come from different parts of the country.A mixture of different cultures, different languages, different groups. But gradually,we all have become friends and started loving the fun at the campus.Late night birthday parties, team work for submission of assignments, discussion of case studies, participation in campus events have made us closer not only in personal life but also taught us the team work.

The most inspiring part of the college apart from academics is, the concept of "Karma Yoga",a unique feature of Great Lakes. Great Lakes has adopted 20 villages nearby the college.Every year, students are divided into groups and are assigned to each village to work with.We are supposed to spot out the concerns of the villagers and figure out the solution for it.What a wonderful thought it is!Thanks to Uncle Bala for giving us such an opportunity like "Karma Yoga" which helps us to transform ourselves into a better soul and lead a better life.

With all such wonderful academics, infrastructure and human values, Life at Great Lakes is a life time experience. It is not just pursuing an MBA in a top B-School.It is all about transforming oneself to a complete human being in all the aspects for a better you, better family, better nation and a better world. That is our legacy and it all starts right here now!
